about

the progression itself is a remnant of a song i wrote in probably 2005 called "a ghost from the past". what past i had at that point, i'm not quite sure. i've always been an old soul.

it's a song about the end of a relationship and the frustration it brings. the chorus speaks to my more petty side when i ask my ex if it stings my to be alone again, and then insist that when i sing, i sing to no one—that this song's not even for her in the end, it's for me.

it was always kind of intended to be a 'glycerine' (by bush) type of song, pretty much guitars. kind of like an angrier twist on an acoustic ballad.

this was slated to be recorded for the album proper, initially to be a bonus or hidden track on the CD, we just never got around to it.

lyrics

the best time to plant a seed was yesterday
the next best, well that's today
i've tried for weeks now, i can't read your mind
does it make you laugh when you want to cry?

i'll smile politely as you go on your way
return to unrequited love and self-loathing
well this could be the day i turn things around
if i could pull my head out of the ground

oh, does it sting to be alone again
and oh, when i sing
i sing to no one, to nobody
i'm nobody

when it rains, it pours, clouds loom over head
out here in nowhere, the moon's my only friend
but i'll find someone new to pull me off this ledge
i can almost see her face there thru the mist

oh, does it sting to be alone again
and oh, when i sing
i sing to no one, to nobody
i'm nobody

can you hear me calling? i'm calling out your name
i've hid it here between the lines, if you've been listening
can you hear me calling? i'm screaming out your name
i hope i never get over the way it tastes

and oh, does it sting to be alone again
and oh, when i sing
i sing to no one, to nobody
i'm nobody
