about

this song was one of a few written by the trifecta of brian, betes, and i. we kinda pieced it together in the rehearsals leading up to the recording.

we tried to record it mostly live as a three piece, as that was how we'd rehearsed it. in reality, it definitely warranted a bigger, glossier approach.

at the time i was very bone-headed in that i generally stuck to the first approach to a song that i'd decided on. even if someone had tried to convince me to beef it up with overdubs, i probably wouldn't have done it.

it only survived thru the first sessions and i am pretty positive i ended up recording over betes' drum take to do my own; even still, it lacked the power it could've had.

plenty of jazz chords and neat rhythms from brian on the bass.

this version did receive a bit of tweaking of the mix from me some months after the fact. just some beefing up of the guitars, some better panning. i considered overdubbing some parts but opted to let it stand on its own as a record of what we tried to do.

lyrics

chances are, the stones you cast will come back around
and when they do they'll scar your heart in the shape of a frown
well i'm sorry for the way i feel and that you don't feel that way anymore
i guess i should take a hint, pack up my things and head for the door

baby, go down, i'll follow you down
a hole in my head, a hole in the ground

who would've thought that the queen would run her mouth?
your crown is starting to fade away and hang like a noose
so pull a little tighter, dear, cut off the air and choke on your lies
or reinvent yourself - a change of pace - it's you i don't recognize
anymore

baby, go down, i'll follow you down
a hole in my head, a hole in the ground
when you go swimming, i'm hoping you'll drown
so hold my hand, we're going down

you put the gun in my hand

baby, go down, i'll follow you down
a hole in my head, a hole in the ground
when you go swimming, i'm hoping you'll drown
so hold my hand, we're going down
