and Jesus wept for he'd given you life but now here you sit with a pocket knife carving his name into the bark of a tree your mother was a beat off from lost your father was a second-hand-shop full of dead dreams and violent serenades and that house by the lake that we watched come up from rafters it burnt down yesterday i wish i saw the look on your face make no mistake it's a tear of the clouds on my face and demons left you to sort it all out now here you sit, empty bottles all around trying to drown yourself from the inside out your mother was paralyzed by her dreams they all failed her so maybe you would be a spark turned out just to be a dead-end street

about

may end up being the last song i ever write. might as well share it here seeing as it will never see a proper recording. it's about a house on a dirt road behind where i grew up that my dad and i used to ride past on our bikes. we watched it come up from the foundation through the framing thru the windows. and then one day it was just me there watching them sell it and a family move in and start a life. and for the rest of my life that's what i would be, standing in one place watching the world move on without me.
